Лондонская национальная портретная галерея объявила о призыве к участию в международном конкурсе в области фотографического портрета имени Тейлора Вессинга. Участникам предлагают интерпретировать "портрет" в самом широком его смысле - "фотография, изображающая человека, с упором на его идентичность как личности". Конкурс открыт для всех желающих в возрасте от 18 лет и старше со всего мира. Работы около 60 фотографов будут отобраны для выставки в Национальной портретной галерее. Выставка запланирована на 8 ноября 2012 г. — 17 февраля 2013 г. Победитель конкурса получит 12 000 фунтов стерлингов. Участие в конкурсе платное.
Entry is now open for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2012, the leading international photographic portrait competition, which celebrates and promotes the very best in contemporary portrait photography. The competition is open to everyone aged 18 and over from around the world.
In the Prize’s search for excellence, photographers are encouraged to interpret ‘portrait’ in its widest sense of ‘photography concerned with portraying people with an emphasis on their identity as individuals.’
Applications must be received in advance, either online or by post, by 23.59 on Monday 9 July 2012.
The National Portrait Gallery was founded in 1856 to collect the portraits of famous British men and women. Today the collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the world, but it needs to raise sufficient funds to build on this, as well as encouraging public access to its works through outreach and educational programmes.

The Photographic Portrait Prize is not about capturing an image of the world’s most photographed. Indeed, you will never know who many of the people in the pictures are and may never see these sights in the course of your everyday life. Each image tells its own story and will inevitably evoke its own reaction.
The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2011 will showcase the work of some of the most talented emerging young photographers from around the world, alongside that of established professionals, photography students and gifted amateurs. Selected anonymously from an open competition, the diversity of styles reflects the international mix of entrants as well as the range of approaches to the portrait genre, encompassing editorial, advertising and fine art images.
