With no set theme photographers are invited to submit recent work, of any subject, style or genre, which engages or challenges the viewer, either to convey stories, raise questions or provoke feeling. Above all, we encourage free expression and are keen to see new and creative approaches that explore the realm of story-telling.

2012 marks the fifth year of the Summershow, as it continues its trajectory as a consistently record-breaking event: in 2011, 1000 entrants from around the globe contributed to a final count of 2,853 images to create London’s premiere salon de photographie.

The successful images hang floor to ceiling in Foto8 Gallery for a six-week period over the summer, giving you, the audience, the opportunity to pick your personal favourite, which in turn may stand a chance of winning the coveted People’s Choice award – and some professional photographic kit. Meanwhile, our illustrious judges, select an overall winner, announced at the wild street party that has come to personify the spirit of the Summershow itself, with the winner receiving £2000.

London’s prestigious Foto8 Gallery (formerly HOST Gallery) in EC1 is the setting for the Summershow where up to 150 images will be selected for exhibition: to be seen and judged by respected industry professionals from the photography, arts and media worlds. In 2012, the print exhibition will open on 6 July with our now famous launch party, with the exhibition continuing until 18 August.

The winner of the ‘Best In Show’ prize of £2000 will be announced at the launch party, with a second ‘People’s Choice’, decided by votes from the public, announced towards the end of the show. All shortlisted work will be included in a printed catalogue and online slideshow and will be available for sale. Proceeds from print sales will be shared between the photographer and Foto8.
