The Camera Club of New York (CCNY) is pleased to announce an open call for curatorial proposals for our 2011-2012 season.
CCNY hosts four guest-curated exhibitions each year, inviting thoughtful artists and curators to propose new and dynamic exhibition ideas for our gallery. CCNY is especially interested in proposals that enrich the broader photographic community, and is very open to working in affiliation with other venues.
Previous exhibitions and their curators include You Can’t Get There From Here, by Evan Mirapaul; Drawing Pictures, by Joelle Jensen; Still Life, by Jon Feinstein; First Impression, by Michael Mazzeo; In Search of the Miraculous, by Yulia Tikhanova; and most recently, HELP ME, curated by Gillian McCain and Megan Cump, featuring a collection of found photographs from Gillian McCain’s collection. More information about these exhibitions can be found under the past exhibitions pages on the CCNY website.
There is a small budget for these exhibitions, including stipends for the curators and some assistance for the artists, on-site insurance for all works, a postcard invitation, and a reception at CCNY.
Curators are encouraged to review CCNY’s mission before submitting a proposal, and to carefully consider the size of CCNY’s gallery (approx 330 square feet, with three walls totaling approx. 49 feet).
Curators may submit more than one proposal if desired. Proposals including the curator’s own work are not eligible.
Interested emerging and established curators should submit the following:
• Proposal: general curatorial concept (no more than 500 words)
• Sample images: works proposed for the exhibition (2-3 images per artist for a group show, 3-5 images for a solo show); images should be saved as .jpgs, 4’x6’ at 300 dpi
• Names and websites of the artists included in your proposal
• Curator’s bio and resume
• Curator’s contact information including phone, address, email and website (if available)
